What a lovely little souvenir of a trip to the Crystal Palace in Victorian times. This little tankard is handblown in clear glass. It then overpainted bands of ruby, into which is etched 'A present from the Crystal Palace', and a vine or hops design. I don't imagine this was an expensive souvenir at the time, it is quite rustic and not very symmetrical (looks a bit drunk), but it is quite charming, and also unusual. I have never seen one before. I purchased it from an elderly lady who was moving to a retirement home. She can remember it being in her home since she was a child. I imagine it dates to the latter Victorian days, c1890. In good condition.
